What to Expect

Here at Southampton Pet Hospital we pride ourselves on excellent care, both for your pet and for you. We realize that you are busy and respect your time by being ON time with our appointments. We have an hour visit for new patients and a 45 minute time for most other exams except rechecks, which are usually 30 minutes. We need that time to 1) get a full and complete medical history (bring in any records you might have or let us call in advance for you and get them faxed to us), 2) allow your pet to RELAX (nothing is more stressful to a pet than a hurried appointment) and 3) to completely and fully explain our diagnostic and/or treatment plans with you.

As your pet’s care team, you and we will work to ensure that all topics are covered completely so that you and your family can choose the best care for yourselves and your pet. We offer traditional and non-traditional approaches to a variety of conditions and topics, and we are always willing to take any questions by phone during the day.

We strongly believe that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure and recommend annual physical exams, as our companions are aging many years for each one of our years. We are in a water and coyote area and see heart worm disease (spread by mosquitoes). Because of this we will recommend yearly testing for dogs, and monthly preventative. We will also request a fecal sample at the yearly exam for both cats and dogs .

We enjoy working with our patients from puppy and kitten hood to their elderly years, and give as much time as you need to discuss and help you fully understand the issues of quality of life towards the end, as well as training and socialization at the beginning.
